Mike O’Hearn, who trained at the gym for four decades, understands bodybuilding science like no other. The 54-year-old Titan, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, underscored the importance of weightlifting.

Bodybuilders lift weights to carve sculpted muscles and win competitions. However, recent studies suggest various health benefits of strength training. However, for most young men it is only a means to build a physique. So, when Mike O’Hearn enquired a 23-year-old young man about weightlifting, he got the obvious answer. 

The young man replied, “To look good, be in shape, and get girls.” Though O’Hearn finds the 23-year-old’s answer reasonable, he believes “weightlifting is so much more than just building muscle.” It’ll be that aha moment in 10 years when you’re like, dang it, my lower back and everything hurts on me, and I waited too long,” 54-year-old O’Hearn said hinting how one will realize the essence of weightlifting later in life.

Despite training for trophies since childhood in his fifties, Titan level upped his bodybuilding game for wellness and longevity. He also a coach helping people to reach their fitness goals. Earlier, the acting icon emphasized lifting heavy at the gym for more benefits. 

The 4x Mr. Universe sides with heavy weightlifting

Coming from an athletic family the 54-year-old always trained hard at the gym since his teens. However, the 4x Mr. Universe focuses on training to maintain health and well-being of late and not trophies. O’Hearn prefers heavy weights over light weights in his fifties and his clips on Instagram bench pressing 405 lbs is a proof.

He believes heavy weights help strengthen the body, which tends to grow weak with age. Titan can also be credited for his Power Bodybuilding technique that offers the advantages of both strength training and hypertrophy.
