The internet is flooded with fitness videos showcasing seemingly perfect workout and diet regimens. However, the rise of social media and the proliferation of influencers have made it challenging to discern accountability in these online tips and hacks for achieving a sculpted six-pack. Complicating matters further, Hollywood has also entered the social media arena, with numerous celebrities sharing their training videos online, generating tremendous excitement among their fans.

But one cannot assure that their workout regimes are helpful, as they are not professionals in the fitness arena. However, Dr. Mike Israetel clears the air surrounding Hollywood fitness routines by critically analyzing various stars’ training regimes for roles. The latest addition to his YouTube channel, Renaissance Periodization, is a critical analysis of actor Kumail Nanjiani’s workout regime for his role in Eternals.

Kumail Nanjiani transformed himself into a ripped frame while prepping for the role of Kingo in Marvel’s Eternals.  However, the exercise scientist Dr.Mike Isreaetel is not impressed by the comedian’s workout video. In the YouTube video “Kumail Nanjiani’s Hollywood Workout: Exercise Scientist’s Critique,” the professor scrutinizes the 45-year-old detailed workout regime and gives his input as a fitness professional.

A clip from the video reflects the stand-up comedian’s low-cable Scoop workout. “What you do is with these cables you bring your hands together, it’s like you’re sort of holding water and then you raise it up a little bit and you try to not engage your delts at all,” he narrated in a 3-year-old Men’s Health video.

“In order for him to lift the weight up after the scoop has occurred it almost exclusively is force generated by the front delts. There’s no way to not have your delts do this!” Israetel reasons out. He further explained the technicalities involved and concludes “not a very effective shoulder exercise.” He further shows his dissatisfaction by saying, “Honestly making things again, as is always the case in Hollywood, needlessly complicated for no reason at all.” This isn’t the first time the exercise scientist was critical of Hollywood’s workout regime.

The exercise scientist rejects the Hollywood trainer’s warm-up lessons

Brie Larson’s trainer’s warm-up session for the actor for the role in Captain Marvel, 2019, was rejected by Israetel. Jason Walsh made Larson do a full-body foam roll for 1 to 3 minutes in every position.
