In 1994 Dorian Yates won his third Mr. Olympia title. After Lee Haney’s historic run ended in 1991, Yates pushed the envelope, bringing never seen before muscularity and conditioning. However, throughout his six Olympia wins, ‘The Shadow’ didn’t have a dearth of challengers who could give him a run for his money. While Flex Wheeler might be more popular, many fans believe, a few other bodybuilding icons gave the Englishman a run for his money.

On June 11, the official ‘Mr. Olympia’ Instagram handle shared a video originally posted by the page ‘Bodybuilding Hero.’ The resurfaced video featured three of the 90s most well know bodybuilders; Dorian Yates, Kevin Levrone, and Shawn Ray. However, the footage enraged fans, who expressed disbelief in the comments.

A historic blunder by the IFBB?

The video started with the three bodybuilding veterans standing alongside one another on stage. The three competitors had made it to the top three of the 1994 Mr. Olympia and awaited the announcer to reveal the final standing. First, the announcer revealed who had won the bronze medal and the bronze Sandow trophy and named Kevin Levrone.

The Maryland Muscle Machine looked disappointed with his third-place finish. The fans also seemed to share their disappointment as a loud mix of cheers and boos could be heard. Then the announcer called Shaw Ray’s name in second place and Yates in first. In the video, Shaw Ray smiled and waved his hands at the fans after finishing as runner-up, while Yated showed off his gold Sandow trophy.

However, nearly three decades after the contest, most people still disagree with the IFBB’s top three standing in 1994. Like the audience could be heard booing in the video, enraged fans commented on the resurfaced footage.

Bodybuilding fans didn’t agree with any of the results

“Levrone was robbed a few times,” one fan stated dryly. While Yates had ushered in the mass monster era, one fan found his waistline too thick. “Dorian’s waist is hella big how tf Kevin not get 1st?” questioned the fan. Another user agreed that Kevin Levrone deserved to win in 1994. “Complete robbery at its best,” wrote the enraged fan.

One individual couldn’t believe how Shawn Ray finished above Levrone. “How Ray placed higher than Levrone I have no idea…” they wrote. Another bodybuilding fan echoed the same sentiment. “Levrone was robbed there’s no way Ray beat him. Levrone should’ve won but at the very least come 2nd,” argued the fan.
