The 2023 Mr. Olympia competitions are right around the corner. Bodybuilding sensation Chris Bumstead appears to be in a tumult ahead of prepping for his fifth victory. Only days ago, the athlete shook the bodybuilding community with his Instagram post, insinuating his retirement plans. While that happened, Cbum was struck with another major life update from his former coach and mentor.
After a year of parting ways with Cbum, Iain Valliere dropped an important decision about his career on Instagram. The news directly affected Cbum, who left a heartfelt note for his brother-in-law in the comments.

While the community gave a hard thought to the 28-year-old champion’s plans for concluding his career, his closest, Iain Valliere, declared his own. The IFBB pro bodybuilder shared the news of his retirement of his decade-long career hours ago on his official Instagram page.
Unlike others, Valliere’s post did not have a lengthy, heartfelt caption but a bold text flashing on the picture: “END OF AN ERA.” A video on the same was shared; hence, he urged his fans to watch it.
The decision was a great deal for the Canadian icon. Before Cbum went under the mentorship of notable coach Hany Rambod in 2022, he was guided by Iain Valliere. Hence, Cbum penned an emotional note for his former coach. “Wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without you brother. Proud of your career and this decision,” the four-time Arnold Classic winner wrote.
The premise of the retirement decision comes after a continued quest for success in his stage appearances. His 2023 Toronto Pro Supershow, victory which dispatched his entry to the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest that is scheduled to be held in November, wasn’t capturing his intrigue anymore. Valliere admitted, “Competing at this year’s Olympia didn’t make me excited anymore.”

Valliere wants to start a family, and in order to never “get pushed out of bodybuilding because of a health complication,” he confessed, “The body will follow what the mind feels (…) It felt like the hardest decision to make until I made it. Then it felt like the easiest decision of my life.”
CBum and Valliere go way back. In an interview with Sports Brief, CBum admitted, “I began to develop what I thought was a ‘good’ physique, but it wasn’t until I met my now close friend and sister’s boyfriend, Iain Valliere, that I even considered competing. He was and still is a huge mentor to me. Iain inspired me to step on stage and coached me through the process.”
Besides CBum, several other notable athletes joined in to show their support and admiration for the now-former bodybuilder Iain Valliere. With his former mentor announcing retirement, Cbum shall be contemplating his own, or not. Given his previous insinuations towards it through social media and interviews, it is also likely that the champion might be on the verge of retiring.
Is Chris Bumstead contemplating retirement?
Fondly called Cbum, the 28-year-old is the reigning Mr. Olympia Classic Physique winner. While his stage performances have given him legendary status, Chris has a fantastic online presence, which helps to drive his popularity among the fanbase.
But the platform comes with its own drawbacks. Often prone to make his deepest opinions known, Bumstead shocked the bodybuilding legion when he posted a long-drawn Instagram post recently.
