The supremacy of genetic advantage has been up for debate in the bodybuilding world for the longest time. While some think good genetics give bodybuilders an innate advantage, veterans like Frank Zane assert the gap can be covered. However, some bodybuilders believe even steroids can do the deed. But a resurfaced video shows mass monster Dorian Yates shattering the latter’s belief.

The 6x Mr. Olympia believes no amount of boosts from performance-enhancing drugs can overpower the benefits of good genetics. While steroids might help in putting on the mass, they won’t give a body that can bring home the trophy.

Recently, an Instagram account dedicated to the golden era of bodybuilding shared a video with Yates’s past clips and audio. While a strong message from the first mass monster played in the background, clips of him on the stage played in the foreground. Adding the caption to the post, they wrote, “Wise words about 💉 from 6X MR.OLYMPIA @thedorianyates as always. ‼‼💯.”

In the video, Yates claimed that PEDs won’t give the contest-winning physique “because if all guys just think that ‘if I take more stuff, I’ll look like that’ those are the people that end up with potential problems.” Furthermore, he reasoned it’s because “the guys in professional contests, these guys are all very genetically inclined to build in that kind of physique.”

Dorian Yates continued, “They’ve got the genetic advantage. Long muscles, natural body fat, body structure that’s balanced, all those kinds of things. You can’t get that from an injection or from a tablet. You can get bigger but there are a lot of big guys around the contest. But those are not balanced.” While Yates believes steroids aren’t the answer to surpassing a genetically blessed physique, Frank Zane seems to know the right answer.
