Fitness guru Arnold Schwarzenegger offers untainted advice to 431,000+ fans, who actively read his newsletter. The athlete also backs his advice with revelations from research and scientific data. In the most recent edition of Arnold?s Pump Club, Schwarzenegger held a discussion about the authenticity of supplements in the market. While he associates with Ladder, a supplement brand of his own in collaboration with basketball legend LeBron James, the bodybuilder addressed the need for authenticity of product labels.?

He took the opportunity to call out the supplement brands that might be misleading their customers with their ingredient labels. Furthermore, he provided a two-step process that ensures the safety of consumers.?

According to the newsletter, the 76-year-old athlete hinted that while supplements can be an important part of nutrition, many of them are not what they appear to be. He addressed the ?biggest problem? of the industry as the emerging lack of trust between consumers and the companies.?

Basing his statements on a study, Arnie claimed that 89% of supplements analyzed had a loophole in listing the ingredients accurately. Whereas over 10% of supplements that were tested contained ?illegal ingredients? that were not listed on the product?s label.?

Referring to another 2022 study, the former bodybuilder shared in the newsletter that ?buying supplements from Amazon wasn?t a guarantee of quality? despite the company?s quality control measures that require documentation from sellers since 2020. Hence, when all options seemed bleak, Arnie suggested a valuable method to check the quality of proteins and ensure the safety of consumption.?

Arnold Schwarzenegger?s two-step quality check

As per the method suggested by the legend, he mentioned the first step as searching for a third-party certification. This certification is a mark of the fact that supplement brands pay to verify the label accuracy through a reputable lab that confirms the safety of the product. Presenting two examples of such a certification, he stated NSF for Sport and Informed-Sport are brands trusted by pro athletes.?

The second step was to compare the ingredients list to a safety scorecard called Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) scorecard. While it might not provide a direct answer to the questions, it shall help to assess the products to encourage a more informed purchase.?
