Fitness legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger was compelled to undergo a series of open heart surgeries due to a congenital heart condition. The IFBB pro had a bicuspid aortic valve, due to which he underwent surgery in 1997, to get it removed and then once again in 2018, to get his pulmonary valve replaced. Despite the concerning situation, the athlete was determined to keep up with his workouts and also his acting feats.
Therefore, in the recent edition of his newsletter, Schwarzenegger decided to shed light on this phase of his life, as part of his Arnold Q&A session. He revealed that the 2019 action hit, Terminator: Dark Fate was filmed only 3 months after his surgery. Yet, he didn?t disappoint his fans.?

As per the source, the 75-year-old legend recalled a distinct time from his fitness journey, after a subscriber asked him about working out on vacation, or in case, a gym is unavailable. He noted that while traveling, the former athlete makes up his own workouts depending on the availability of equipment. ?I don?t worry that I can?t do my normal program. I just worry about what I can do,? he wrote.?
The pro elucidated that at some places, one might have to adjust with simple workouts like push-ups, pull-ups, bodyweight squats, and running the stairs. However, he made sure to point out that 3 weeks won?t massively hurt his regimen or gains. He added, ?But there is something else you should know: you won?t lose everything in 3 weeks.?
Besides that, he disclosed that 3 months after his open heart surgery in 2018, he was ready to take up his role in the Terminator 2 sequel. ?I couldn?t train for 6 weeks,? he shared but that didn?t stop him from getting to his goals. Thus, his final words of wisdom hinted, ?Building a foundation will save you for the times you can?t train!? Apart from the health concerns, Schwarzenegger even faced trouble retracing his old fit life.?

In an interview, the IFBB champion once shared that rising above his struggles, days after his surgery was a difficult task. He felt that his condition was ironic to the message he spreads on fitness and healthy living. ?I can already hear you saying, ?Easy for you to say, Arnold. Fitness has always been your life, and you have always been in top shape,? he told.?

When in reality, it took him a lifetime to get back on his workout regimen. Regardless, he didn?t mind working his way from rock bottom once again. He stated, ?Had to use a walker. I had to do breathing exercises five times a day to retrain my lungs. I was frustrated and angry, and in my worst moments.? The athlete could hardly find his way back to his old fit self.?
