The most important pillars of muscle hypertrophy include resistance training, progressive overload, and good nutrition. Despite the fact that men and women have certain differences when it comes to physiological aspects such as muscle mass and hormone levels, these differences do not warrant drastically different training methods. Talking along the same lines, Schwarzenegger wrote in his newsletter“Anyone who talks to women about “toning” or spot reduction is talking BS. That is made up.”

Continuing further, Schwarzenegger stated, “I believe instead of telling men and women to train differently, we should tell everybody to train for a goal.” He also added to this, “These Instagram people need to stop scaring women away with their fake toning messages.”

One of the biggest fears that most women have is that weight training will make them muscular. For this very reason, they often resort to extensive cardio and almost no weight training. While weight training can help enhance the rate of fat loss, Schwarzenegger pointed out the fact that muscle hypertrophy does not happen overnight.

“When people said, “I don’t want to look like you,” I thought, “Are you nu*s? It took me 4-5 hours a day, 6 days a week to look like this.” Building muscle is very gradual. You are not going to wake up one day looking like a bodybuilder,” Schwarzenegger added.
