Fitness is a term that varies from person to person. While for some, it can mean staying within the calorie limits, others might just consider themselves fit when they have a normal, healthy body. At the same time, some use the term for their bare survival against all odds. The story of a woman who went against the grain and survived for 117 years, therefore, remains a unique legacy for the human race.

Emma Morano was an Italian woman born in the 19th century on 29 November 1899. After living an extremely long life, she died in 2017 at the age of 117. Her health was unmatched, and despite nature’s cruelest spell, she managed to keep herself fit, no matter what.

Only at the tender age of 20 Emma had been diagnosed with anemia. For the next 70 years, she consistently followed the diet routine prescribed by the doctor she visited in the wake of the First World War. The doctor had advised her to eat at least three eggs a day. Two of them must be eaten raw. Having eaten over 100,000 eggs in her life, Emma can testify to its effect on her longevity.

The beneficial consistency made it possible for Emma to win the Oldest Living Person (13 May 2016 ? 15 April 2017). Despite everyone’s expectations and stereotyping, Emma’s diet actually was the chief reason behind her survival. Morano taught the human race that one cannot starve and attain low body fat as their initial step to longevity.

Moreover, Morano did not include expected healthy alternatives to modern-day junk in her meals. Instead, she used to eat a lot of cookies.

Emma Morano stayed away from fruits, vegetables, and meat

Although people might expect fruits and green vegetables to have a huge role in being healthy, Morano’s story tells a different tale. She used to eat little to no fruits or vegetables. After a certain age, she stopped eating meat, as it no longer suited her taste. Emma also confessed to eating less since she continued to add numbers to her age, and her having no teeth increased the pace. Towards the end of her life, she used to live on biscuits.
