Ronnie Coleman is widely regarded as the King of bodybuilding for having won the title of Mr. Olympia eight times in a row tying with Lee Haney. But it wasn’t him alone who gets all the credit for his success and the King knows it. Coleman has credited many people including his family and friends for helping him throughout. And now he has credited Flex Wheeler for the success he has tasted in bodybuilding.
See, it was Wheeler who had introduced him to one of his best coaches. Wheeler even helped him meet the dietary demands which geared him to his first Olympia win. The King recently unveiled the process that got him under the wings of the Sultan of Symmetry and how he managed to get the tips.
Flex Wheeler’s support in getting Ronnie Coleman his first win

Ronnie Coleman took to his official Instagram account and posted snippets of his interview, where he was seen talking about his first-ever Olympia win. He begins by giving the entire credit to Flex Wheeler for the win. Coleman said, “You know Flex taught me everything I knew.” He also talks about how in 1994 when Wheeler was on tour and had just won the Arnold Classic, Ronnie Coleman was heavily inspired by his physique.

He had the urge to find out what Wheeler’s routine was so that he could follow in his footsteps and win tournaments. And so, he used the one trick that got him ahead in school. Ronnie Coleman, in his school days, would find the smartest student, study with him, find out what he did, and follow the same process. They say, surround yourself with people better than you and Coleman did just that.

This made him the smartest student in the school. And so, Coleman said, “I’d do the same thing with Flex. I went to him and I was like, “Man what you doing?” He told me. I did exactly what he said”. And well, although Wheeler could not win the title for himself, it was his guidance that brought Coleman the first Mr. Olympia win.

Wheeler once even expressed how he felt not being able to win even once.
Flex Wheeler shares remorse on not winning the Olympia
In 1999 Mr. Olympia, Flex Wheeler arrived on stage with the best shape, and he was heavier than Ronnie Coleman. He was confident that he would take home the title that year but was surprised when the judges announced Coleman as the winner. Wheeler had lost the crown by only 3 points.

He also thought that 1999 was going to be his year. But, as fate would have it, “At the ’99 Olympia, I (Wheeler) was 17 pounds heavier, in better shape than ever before, and Ronnie still slammed it with a perfect score.” He thought that the combination of symmetry and size would be enough, but it turned out that the King needed a lot more to be defeated!
