Jay Cutler, although reached his 50s, barely reduced his fitness goals. Retired from competitive bodybuilding, the four-times Mr. Olympia title still follows distinctive fitness routines. He recently talked about the controversial Incline bench press vs flat bench press choices. As he chose the former, he also explained the reason behind it.
Cutler simply does not choose an exercise just because one is more trendy than the other, he goes through his own trial and error methods for a better understanding of what suits him the most. He also keeps in mind that while doing a lot of the exercises, one needs to consider the safety measures around it.

In a recently shared YouTube short video, Cutler was featured imparting his idea about whether an incline bench can really impact upper pecs or not. The bodybuilder said,
“I believe it definitely can engage more of the front delts, and pecs,” then he also added how it can be a safer choice as well. He said, “More importantly, the incline bench press can be a little bit of a safer movement because you are using a little bit of more shoulders.”Moreover, the bodybuilder further added how he prefers to do incline bench presses. He confessed, “I prefer using the incline bench over a flat bench just because of the comfortability of that movement, it definitely puts less strain on the shoulder joint in that position.”
Jay Cutler had also warned people from doing heavy flat bench presses. Instead, he suggested a better alternative which he used to perform himself.

Cutler’s Alternative for Heavy Flat Bench Press
Cutler once remarked how he does not like to do Flat Bench Presses. He had said, “Throughout my professional bodybuilding career I always said I preferred to stay away from heavy flat bench press and use dumbbells instead”. Moreover, he also mentioned how he liked to do another important exercise that focuses on strengthening the shoulders, triceps, and chest. He stated, “However, something I do like to do on chest day is use a flat Smith Machine press on certain occasions”.

Cutler expressed the basic difference as to why he prefers to do incline bench presses over flat ones. Without skipping over the necessity of having a better and safer choice, the bodybuilder also emphasized how people should consider it further for their safe exercise regime.
