Bodybuilding icon Mike O’Hearn’s wife, Mona Muresan, was behind the camera in one of his recent training vlogs. Muresan also chimed in with her advice as the 55-year-old trained with two young fitness enthusiasts. While she no longer competes, Muresan was an IFBB Pro Figure competitor who knows a thing or two about training.
Near the end of the video, Muresan filmed one of the men doing bicep hammer curls. As the bodybuilding enthusiast neared the end of his set, Muresan gave him a tip. The former fitness model explained what he needed to focus on during the last few reps to accurate his strength and gains. “When you take it down, fight it!” said O’Hearn’s wife.
While curling the dumbbell is the most difficult part of the movement, controlling the eccentric is also key to making gains. That’s what Mona Muresan meant by fighting the weight. “I’m telling you right now, I always work on the negative. That’s how I got strong,” said the former IFBB Pro. The bodybuilding enthusiast listened to her instruction.

While the change in his facial expression during the last three reps said a lot, he also confirmed verbally. “Huge difference,” admitted the gymgoer. Just like her four-time Mr. Universe winner husband, Museran also has years of experience with training and editing. In fact, she is the one in charge of making sure all of Mike O’Hearn’s nutritional needs are met during a prep.
So, while many bodybuilding fans praise the 55-year-old for staying lean all year round, Mona Mursan plays a part in his success. The former figure competitor is also someone who practices what she preaches, and the fact that Mursan controls the eccentric is apparent in all her videos.

The bodybuilding veteran has demonstrated the technique several times
Mona Muresan regularly demonstrates eccentric control whether it’s overhead shoulder presses or hamstring curls. In a recent video with Mike O’Hearn, the bodybuilding veteran demonstrated purposefully slowed eccentrics while performing overhead presses. During the video, Muresan pressed the weight up and then lowered it down as slowly as she could.
Similarly, during hamstring curls, she controlled the eccentric portion of the movement for maximum muscle fatigue. While the concentric part of any movement is difficult, controlling the eccentric can make the same movement even harder. While this may lower the number of reps one can do, but benefits the overall strength by increasing time under tension considerably.

While Mike O’Hearn is the one spending the most time in front of the camera one shouldn’t forget that his wife is also a bodybuilding veteran with competition experience under her belt.
