Ever since the popularization of bodybuilding, muscle growth has always been a topic of debate. One often comes across different kinds of advice regarding the number of days one should engage in training for optimum effect. Fitness influencer Jay Vincent, who often garners fans’ attention for advocating effective workouts on his social media, has shared his thoughts on the same.

Vincent elaborated on the approach that he thought would be most effective for enhancing muscles, advocating for a routine that would not take much of one’s time.

In a recent video uploaded by the JayVincetFitness YouTube channel, the bodybuilding icon shared how the muscle-developing process works. Busting a myth about the gaining process, he said, “The volume and the tempo. These are not the main drivers of your muscle growth. The main driver of muscle growth is intensity of effort.” He suggested further adopting the routine of training just two days per week, instead of working out every day. Emphasizing the importance of workout frequency, he said, “what most people need to realize is the split.”

Continuing further, he said that the more effort one puts into an exercise, the more motor units his or her nervous system recruits, thereby, the more muscle fibers are stimulated to grow. He further said that one can get of all these muscle fibers and get the most amount of growth possible. But when they do this, their exercise tolerance drastically diminishes. The harder one push, the less exercise you are capable of.

His suggestion of not training very often is not the only Jay Vincent’s advice that has gone against the grain.  Earlier, Vincent said that bench press was not really a good exercise for chest muscles.

Jay Vincent’s unique chest training approach

Revealing that there are many other safer exercises for chest growth, Vincent said, Bench press is not a good chest exercise. The primary function of your pecs is adduction. Bring your arm from outside, to in. If you were doing a bench press, you’re not getting any adduction at all. It just doesn’t optimally contract and load the chest muscles,” said Vincent.
