Arnold Schwarzenegger recently decided to ask a question, “What Happens to Your Muscles on Vacation?” This question might take his ‘village’ aback because this is a concerning point of view. The Austrian Oak spent decades walking into the rooms of power in different industries, and he has a Midas touch, no doubt. However, he was also driven by an urge to help people and society through his myriad sources of wisdom. It is why he started the newsletter, which has more than a million members who abide by his words. That is why he again addressed his beloved crew and reassured them not to worry about losing muscle during vacation.
According to the Austrian Oak, when it comes to strength and muscle, it is evident that if someone does not use it, they will lose it. However, it is not an immediate process and happens at least after three weeks of inactivity. It takes at least one month for the strength to decrease as well. He also mentioned that “first workout or two back after a break is more about mental and physical acclimation than an actual loss of strength.”
The 7-time Mr. Olympia decided to give more evidence by explaining that research has found that about two weeks off from exercise will make running, cycling, and swimming strenuous. He assured people that he might not lose muscle for vacation, but if there is a consistent level of exercise, then the body is also going to be kind to us.
He left his village reassured by saying, “The next time you’re sick or on vacation, don’t worry if you cannot exercise as you usually do or want some time off.” The legendary bodybuilder always tells his ‘village’ to take it slow and start steadily but maintain consistency with any goal that they accomplish in life.
