Dorian Yates, the legendary bodybuilder who secured the Mr. Olympia title six times. Recently delighted fans by sharing a throwback clip from 1996 showcasing his guest posing routine. This particular performance took place a few weeks after he clinched his fifth Mr. Olympia victory and was transitioning out of his rigorous competition preparation phase.

It was his second last Mr. Olympia competition before retiring. He retired after his 6th win in 1997 due to injuries. Despite that, he never stopped working out. Even at the age of 61 he still mastered fitness goals and could easily beat any youngster with his masculinity. In his recent post on social media, Yates showed a glimpse of his giant body.

Yates shared an Instagram post with the caption “Here’s a clip of my guest posing routine, 1996”, He flaunts his imposing physique with a weight of around 275lbs, a notable 15lbs heavier than his appearance at the German Grand Prix just days after his triumphant Olympia win. The routine he exhibits is the very one he meticulously crafted for the Olympia event.

This meticulous attention to detail was essential to achieve flawless execution on stage. Perfecting the timing, the transitions, and the fluidity of his movements required an immense investment of time and energy. The dedication and commitment required to perfect his routine were truly substantial. Yates reminisces about the countless hours he spent refining every aspect of his routine in the confines of his garage.

He then said, “I’m performing here my posing routine I crafted for the Olympia. As the posing was judged, we as competitors had to put a lot of effort still into the overall presentation of our physiques including music too.”

61-year-old bodybuilder’s practice and retirement from the event

Bodybuilding legend reveals that the accompanying music, known as the “phone operator music,” was the same track he used during his Olympia performance. He emphasizes that he collaborated with a studio to painstakingly construct this musical accompaniment. For him, the key was to synchronize his routine seamlessly with the beat and lyrics of the track, a feat that demanded an extensive amount of practice.
