In a momentous event for the bodybuilding community, Las Vegas has officially declared an “Olympia Day.” This marked a new pinnacle for the sport. This declaration celebrates the significant impact of the Mr. Olympia competition, founded by Joe and Ben Weider in 1965.

The Weider brothers wanted to take bodybuilding to the mainstream, and their journey began at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. Over the years, Mr. Olympia has become the top event in bodybuilding, akin to the legendary Mount Olympus itself.

Mr. Olympia’s Instagram page announced the news of the “Olympia Day,” featuring images and videos from an event that took place on June 27th. During the ceremony, Olympia President Dan Solomon spoke passionately about Joe Weider’s legacy. According to him, celebrating Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas, the entertainment capital, was a huge achievement.

Solomon expressed gratitude for continuing Joe Weider’s vision and recognized Weider’s contributions to bodybuilding. “And I know somewhere Joe is smiling. To everyone who has made this possible, we are incredibly grateful, so thank you very much for being here,” he said. The Instagram post explained the event’s importance: “Las Vegas declared yesterday ‘Olympia Day’ to celebrate the powerful relationship Vegas has formed with the fitness industry’s most prestigious event.”

The ceremony was held at Resorts World, where Commissioner Tick Segerblom presented Olympia owner Jake Wood and President Dan Solomon with the “Key to the Las Vegas Strip.” Many of bodybuilding’s biggest stars attended, making it a star-studded event. Throughout the years the Sin City has played host to the Mr. Olympia event. Even when the President had announced that the 60th edition of Mr. Olympia would be returning to Vegas, he had hinted at the event’s connection with the city. “We’re proud of the relationship we’ve built with the city of Las Vegas over the last 25 years…worthy of our historic 60th year, the ultimate celebration of how far the fitness industry has come,” said the President.

The current Mr. Olympia, who graced the event, proudly holding the key took to the comments to call this an “incredible moment in bodybuilding history.” The excitement was high, with even Vegas’ official Instagram page commenting, “Gotta flex our love for the fitness community.” The sentiment echoed through the bodybuilding community, who showered strong support for the declaration.

The Legacy is strong!” Many fans believed that Weider would be proud of how strong and successful his legacy has become.
