Dr. Mike Israetel, aka the Exercise Scientist, never misses a chance to review training regimes. Having expressed his views on the most prominent figures in their field, like Hollywood actor Zac Effron, Hugh Jackman, or former WWE wrestler Bautista, this time on his radar is the young fitness freak, Sam Sulek.

In a short video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Renaissance Periodization, the former professor shared tips for Sulek, focusing on big stretches and eccentricity while working out. Let’s find out how the Exercise Scientist wants him to apply his tips.

The bigger the stretch, the bigger the muscles grow

The first tip from the former professor to the young bodybuilding enthusiast is to focus on controlling the eccentric of the downward motion. He elucidates the benefits of doing so and says, “It’s a very growth-promoting, and because controlling it more asks your muscles to work harder, it’s harder to control. It provides a great deal of hypertrophic stimulus.”

For the next tip, he added a video of his training partner, Jared Feather, performing double-hand rows. This time, the former Exercise Scientist wants the 22-year-old bodybuilding enthusiast to focus on the deep stretches while performing the same exercise. He wants Sulek to make his stretch bigger so he can feel the muscles more.

The former professor further explained, “It’s been shown time and time again now with good theory and empirical support that big stretches under big loads grow the muscle more than if you stop a little shot. You want to really let your entire backup folded out, and then crunch it back in.

This is not the first time the bodybuilding critic has shared tips for the young bodybuilding enthusiast. Earlier this month, he criticized Sulek for lifting heavy weights.

In another short YouTube video on his YouTube channel, he shared his views on how the 22-year-old can improve his training methods. In the video, Sulek was doing a single-hand lat pulldown with extreme weight reps simultaneously in a single breath. However, the Exercise Scientist was not impressed by Sulek’s strength and called him out. He explained, “It’s fun to be young and jacked and strong as and just like Bully the Weights.”

The former professor illuminated that the “ratio of stimulus to fatigue” and “ratio of stimulus to injury” probability ratios are not near what the ideal ratios should be. He advised the young bodybuilding enthusiast to control the weights at every point to obtain optimal results from every exercise.
