Bodybuilding veteran Dorian Yates has inspired countless individuals throughout his journey to the top of the sport. Yates won the Mr. Olympia title six consecutive times during his prime years due to his mass monster frame. Ever since he retired from the sport, Yates’ focus has shifted from bodybuilding to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

However, he still cherishes his golden days as a bodybuilder and often posts throwback pictures and memories on his social media with his fans. In a recently posted picture on Instagram, Yates remembered his first victory at the Night of the Champions and gave a little insight into his fashion preferences back in the day.

Posting an image from his first trip to California, Yates revealed that the picture was from the same shoot that he did with Chris Lund, where Yates lifted a whopping 200lbs dumbbells while rowing. He continued by explaining him, wearing a dungaree in the picture. He stated that dungarees were an iconic piece of clothing back in the 80s and 90s as they “were rather cool and a fashionable thing to wear.”

He continued by revealing, “These were my own dungarees that I wore too and Chris liked the look! He wanted some pics of me wearing them so that’s what we did.” Yates added that his old stage rival and good friend Chris Cormier find the picture hilarious in nature. “He said I kind of looked like a redneck and had that country vibe going on,” wrote Yates.

In an interview with EscapeFitness earlier this year, Yates disclosed that years of bodybuilding training make a lifter’s body stiff. This also leads to a lack of mobility and flexibility that yoga helps with. “I started with a better base but my mobility was pretty bad like as far as being able to rotate and things like that because you never do that at all..um and my balance was terrible,” said Dorian.

Continuing further, ‘The Shadow’ said, “I remember trying to do the tree pose where you’re standing on one foot and doing things and I kept falling over and I was like fuck! And the yoga teacher is like Dorian f**k is not a yoga word..stop trying so hard.”
