Chris Bumstead is a four-time Mr. Olympia champion in the Classic Physique category, and he did not taste the fruits of success before his third year in the competition. Even though Bumstead finished as a runner-up in 2017, he has become a star in the bodybuilding world now and works hard for his career. Unfortunately, Bumstead has his curveballs to overcome and has been facing an autoimmune disease for the past couple of years. Bumstead had been previously hospitalized in 2018 due to this, and could not prepare for the Olympia that year. Since then, the IFBB pro has been balancing his life as a bodybuilder with this disease in tow.

Coach Greg Doucette recently shared a video on YouTube talking about Chris Bumstead?s meal prep during his off-season. The video is titled, ‘The Bulk Needs to Stop Chris Bumstead’. Let?s see why.

The whole video is about the total calories that Chris eats in a day during the off-season. Greg explains all the stages of his diet in the video to break down why he eats what he eats. This is to help viewers understand that each individual has a different meal preparation, and also a different amount of nutrients they need from the four food groups.

Chris Bumstead has almost 10% body fat during the off-season, and he is preparing to bulk up. He is having some bread and a smoothie for his first meal, and Greg talks about how he is also adding artificial sweeteners: ?And for breakfast, he is having a shake with three scoops of protein also a couple of slices of bread and he is not scared of artificial sweeteners.? He further states that it is not cancerous, and Chris also adds fiber. According to Greg, Chris does not consume vegetables in his off-seasons because it does not sit well with his health. This is where Bumstead?s autoimmune disease comes into the picture: ?But remember Chris has an autoimmune disease. He is working with doctors and has the most ideal diet for him. Notice I said, for him, perhaps for you if you copy this it wouldn?t be healthy,? explains Doucette.

Chris Bumstead suffers from an autoimmune disease known as IGA Nephropathy which is an autoimmune kidney disorder that causes swelling in the person?s kidneys, legs, back, and stomach. This disease will adversely affect the career of a bodybuilder, let alone one season of competition. However, CBum?s story is going to motivate others in the future not only because he is on the road to recovery but also because he does not let his dreams subside because of the disease. CBum is very particular about his food, especially because of the autoimmune disease, and cuts chicken from his diet.

His diet plan looks different from most bodybuilders, and he is gearing up for the 5th Mr O according to the video by Greg Doucette. Bumstead spoke in his calorie diet video about cutting chicken from his diet, saying, ?One chicken meal maybe, but I went a few weeks without eating chicken. Giving myself a detox because I eat so much of it. It?s such mass-produced meat I don?t trust that, it?s like good to go all the time so swapping it up Bison I found meats that are less popular like bison and elk gamey meats like that are less likely to be massed produced and fed a bunch of that?.?

Bumstead is trying to detoxify his system and hopes that the healthy diet is helping in some way. The Canadian bodybuilder is in tune with his system and does what is best for it. Greg Doucette also supports this and said so in the video that everyone has a different meal plan and should not blindly copy their idol?s diets.?
