Arnold Schwarzenegger has once again gone on to decode how a simple aspect of one’s food can help with brain function. Taking to his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, Arnie has delved into the benefits of fiber and how it can help one improve their health in general. The seven-time Mr. Olympia winner has in recent times been imparting the wisdom he gained during his career to his fans through various platforms.

This time, Schwarzenegger also revealed how including fiber in one’s diet can save one from the effects of dementia. Let us dive into the research that Arnie showcases in the latest edition of his newsletter.

Arnie started the newsletter talking about how fiber protects the brain while also hinting at how many latest diets on social media can be misleading. Like his usual self, Arnie had major research backing up his claims.

According to research cited in the newsletter, scientists have invested almost 35 years in assessing the potential relationship between dementia and fiber. Firstly, they kept the food blogs for more than 3700 people for 14 years and tracked their health for the next 21 years. This led to the finding that “Those who ate the highest amount of fiber had the lowest rates of dementia, and those who ate more soluble fiber seemed to be more protected,” Arnie wrote.

According to Schwarzenegger, this was a study that measured the causality and effect, explaining the fact that one couldn’t state why researchers saw this impact. However, the results might be connected to an interesting relationship between your gut and brain. Fiber helps improve your gut bacteria, and other studies suggest that healthier microbes in your gut can help reduce brain inflammation and prevent the onset of dementia.

Arnie also had some recommendations to add more soluble fiber to your food. Eating bananas, lima and black beans, lentils, edamame, chia seeds, Brussels sprouts, avocados, sweet potatoes, flaxseed, and oatmeal is important, he wrote. “If you want an easy boost, add psyllium husk to your protein shake,” he added.

This is not the first time that the legend has talked about the benefits of fiber. Earlier, he had revealed how fiber helped in cholesterol management, among many other advantages.

In an earlier edition of his newsletter, Schwarzenegger explained, “Fiber might be the least sexy of all nutrition ingredients — but it also might be one of the most impactful changes you could make to your diet.” He further listed the health benefits one could get from fiber intake. This not only includes better gut health but also fiber’s ability in helping to control hunger, and cholesterol management as well as improve heart health. Including fiber in one’s diet will also help in weight loss, the Austrian Oak wrote.
