Arnold Schwarzenegger has been busting dieting myths in his fitness newsletter since 2023. The 76-year-old bodybuilding legend has highlighted the need for adequate protein consumption. However, despite the benefits, various myths surround the building blocks of our muscles. In the latest edition of Arnold’s Pump Club, the former Mr. Olympia exposed yet another one.

You may have heard one of the most common protein myths, stating excess intake stresses the liver. However, this time, Arnold Schwarzenegger discussed the myth linking protein intake to kidney stones. Kidney stones are formed when your urine contains excess crystal-forming substances like calcium, oxalates, and uric acid. However, the myth says protein contributes to it.

However, Arnold Schwarzenegger provided evidence that states such an assumption is false. “Studies suggest that higher-protein diets are not a direct cause of kidney stones,” Arnie explained in his newsletter. Yet, it also hinted at why such a myth took root. “Ignoring other nutritional needs while eating more protein could increase your risk,” said the bodybuilding icon.
