There has been a significant surge in the number of people suffering from cardiovascular diseases. According to research in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the cases have doubled from 271 million in 1990 to a whopping 523 million in 2019. And it is only expected to be increasing in the future. 

Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger unravels insightful studies that state that among all the other precautions that can be taken, some hobbies can help protect you from such states. Stating an applied research, he reveals how learning a new language can help protect your brain from dementia.

In the latest edition of his daily Newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, the 4X Mr. Olympia champion stated a study where scientists reviewed 20 studies and determined the cognitive benefits of learning multiple languages. He wrote, “While speaking multiple languages does not prevent or reverse cognitive disorders, learning a new language can strengthen and reorganize your brain functionality, which can help protect against neurodegenerative diseases.”

He even mentioned about the partnership with Babbel. Even though it is harder to start speaking a new language in the later years, Babbel has a program that helps you learn a new language by just dedicating 10 minutes of your day. Arnold Schwarzenegger concluded that it is as important to train your mind as to train your muscles. He even enunciated how the muscles work when they are not in use actively for a long time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about Muscle-mind connection

He stated that when it comes to strength and muscle, you might lose it if you do not use it, not immediately though. The process is a lot slower than you think. Arnie wrote, “Research suggests it takes at least three weeks of inactivity for you to start losing muscle.” The longer you perform your regular exercises religiously, the more capacity your muscles have to withstand the activities.

He added that it takes about a month for your strength to just decrease by certain levels. We often take our time off from doing the exercises as a huge setback, but the first workouts after a break are more about mental and physical acclimation. There is no actual loss of strength, and the more determined you are, the easier it gets to get back to your grind.
