Arnold Schwarzenegger has always promoted fitness regimes that have worked the best for him as well as techniques that he thinks are more efficient for growing muscles and retaining them. Now, Arnie has gone on to explain how gyms have always been a place of experiments where people would get to know what works best for them by trial and error.

The former Mr. Olympia, who still tries to do intense training despite every hardship, has now revealed how training without heavy lifting is possible with two golden rules. Schwarzenegger, who has been in the bodybuilding industry for over 60 years now, also insinuated on how his experience does not mean his predictions would work for everyone.

Schwarzenegger explained that there are two golden rules to fitness that every bodybuilder should keep in mind. He wrote, “My rules are: 1. When the reps go down, the weight goes up. 2. I want the last two reps to be hard, but I don’t want failure.” Then he also confessed that one should treat their gym as a lab where they find out what works for them.

The Austrian Oak also suggested that one should go about increasing their reps gradually. He explained that all fitness enthusiasts should take responsibility for their own weights, as he can never pinpoint everyone’s requirements. “The way to make those rules work is trial and error. Some people want me to pick the weights for you based on 60 years in the gym, that’s a bad idea. I might oversell you or undersell you,” Schwarzenegger said.

The former bodybuilder who also had an extensive career in acting and politics, outside of his brilliant bodybuilding career, also has a major regret in his life. Most recently, he revealed how he was a bit dejected about his lack of musical talent.

Arnie wanted his father’s talent in music

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s father, Gustav Schwarzenegger, used to play six musical instruments and Arnie wanted to have a similar talent as well. “I wish I had musical talent! My dad played 6 instruments,“ he replied to a fan who asked him what was the one skill he wanted to have but didn’t.

He even mentioned an incident where he could only laugh when he was asked to sing. “I once went on James Corden’s show to do a recap of all of my movies and the band leader asked me what key I would sing the Twins song in. I just laughed.”
