Arnold Schwarzenegger understands that almost all the ways of extending longevity usually give a very established discomfort to people opting for better and improved health. Yet the bodybuilder does not believe that to live longer one has to go through the pain and uncomfortable situations alone, there are in fact fun ways to extend one’s life, and that too up to 8 years.

The 76-year-old bodybuilder, who still has his own fitness routine he keeps up, shares another trick for longevity. According to Schwarzenegger, it can be achieved by simply staying happy and laughing one’s heart out. Let us look at what Arnold Schwarzenegger found out through his research studies.

In the latest issue of Arnold Pump Club, Schwarzenegger again brought up longevity and how to achieve it. He mentioned that researches show that “people who laugh more often can live up to 8 years longer than those who don’t.” Yet there is a problem that arises when people start growing old. He stated, “A phenomenon known as the “humor cliff” suggests that we begin to laugh less in our 20s, and compared to childhood, we laugh a fraction of the time.”

Shocking as it is, a 4-year-old laughs about 300 times a day whereas a 40-year-old does the same every 10 weeks. Although no one knows exactly which aspect of laughter increases longevity, it understandably reduces stress and anxiety. Schwarzenegger wrote, “Frequent laughter was associated with a 48 percent decrease in death from all causes, a 73 percent lower risk of death from heart disease, and an 83 percent lower risk of infection.” Arnold Schwarzenegger also suggested other steps which are small yet with bigger impacts can help with longevity as well.
