Arnold Schwarzenegger explains “humor cliff”

In the latest issue of Arnold Pump Club, Schwarzenegger again brought up longevity and how to achieve it. He mentioned that researches show that “people who laugh more often can live up to 8 years longer than those who don’t.” Yet there is a problem that arises when people start growing old. He stated, “A phenomenon known as the “humor cliff” suggests that we begin to laugh less in our 20s, and compared to childhood, we laugh a fraction of the time.”

Shocking as it is, a 4-year-old laughs about 300 times a day whereas a 40-year-old does the same every 10 weeks. Although no one knows exactly which aspect of laughter increases longevity, it understandably reduces stress and anxiety. Schwarzenegger wrote, “Frequent laughter was associated with a 48 percent decrease in death from all causes, a 73 percent lower risk of death from heart disease, and an 83 percent lower risk of infection.” Arnold Schwarzenegger also suggested other steps which are small yet with bigger impacts can help with longevity as well.

Walking for a long life, says Arnold Schwarzenegger

Through another issue of his Arnold Pump Club, Schwarzenegger had pointed out how walking helps in increasing one’s life span to a great degree. He stated how walking fast is proven to have increased lifespan, “Research also suggests that fast walkers live longer than those who can’t maintain a decent pace.”

Schwarzenegger also wrote the rate at which fast walking can help extend one’s longevity, “And yet another study discovered that for every one meter per second faster, you can move, you see an increase in lifespan.” Which of the two ways would be easier and more optimum for an average person to achieve?
