Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger recently took to his daily newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, and revealed why this was the case. According to the seven-time Mr. Olympia winner a heavily used device was responsible for this situation.

Stating research, Arnold Schwarzenegger explained that using your phone while walking could increase stress and decrease your mood. Using it while you are out to improve your health takes you off the radar of benefits and causes more problems.

He wrote, “Walking while glued to your phone can decrease your heart rate, make you feel less comfortable, more negative, less connected to nature, and even experience worse posture (keeping your head down on your phone is not good for your gait.)” Pointing to another study that elaborated on how phone usage increased stress levels while walking, he suggested, “put the machine away.”

Furthermore, Arnie stated how scrolling through your social media might have a lot of benefits too, but doing so while exercising was definitely not the right time for it. In the newsletter, he also touched upon the importance of adding supplements to your body for recovery.

According to Arnie, if one exercises and sweats regularly, it is important to give your body more than just water to recover. He cited research that focused on how hydrating with electrolytes before or after your workout routine helped boost your performance. This also reduces the level of fatigue in your body and fastens the process of recovery.
