According to the 76-year-old, traditionally, cardio workouts take the spotlight for their heart-strengthening prowess. However, scientists have opted to challenge the status by contrasting cardio with weight training, in addition to incorporating a fusion of both modalities.

The results were surprising, as shown in the newsletter, “The 50-50 split of cardio and weights provided the same cardiovascular benefits as the cardio-only group. The weights-only group didn’t improve as much, but they lost as much fat as the cardio group and — not surprisingly — gained more lean muscle. ”

According to the Terminator, dropping 1 percent of body fat can lower your chances of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and metabolic syndrome. And guess what? Weight training is the way to go if you want to lose fat. Meanwhile, research suggests that splitting weight training with cardio provides a complete package, offering benefits for physical strength and heart health.

The benefits of splitting your exercises

Recent research showed that lifting weights is just as good as doing cardio for burning fat. Even though the weightlifters ate a bit more, they still burned fat effectively. But don’t forget, what you eat plays a big role too. The study also looked at how much exercise you need. As he highlighted in the Pump Club, even The World Health Organization suggests 150 minutes of exercise each week.

But how should you divide that time? Well, working out for an hour three times a week seems to be a winner. Spend 30 minutes on cardio and 30 minutes on weights for some awesome health benefits. And here’s the exciting part: researchers are planning another study to see if changing up the exercise routine, like doing less resistance training but more cardio, can give even better results. Stay tuned for that!
