Arnold Schwarzenegger, the seven-time Mr. Olympia, understands the significance of incorporating breaks into a workout routine. While many might view breaks as a hindrance to progress at the gym, he argues that taking breaks can enhance performance and prevent burnout. However, during his prime in bodybuilding, he used to train regularly, twice a day.
In his recent newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, Schwarzenegger talked about the importance of consistency in maintaining habits to reach your fitness goals and talks about how occasional breaks or disruptions should not be a cause for panic or despair.

Schwarzenegger went on to talk about how during holidays or when facing temporary hitches like injuries, many individuals deviate from their regular training schedules. But he also stressed the fact that these short-term distractions or breaks should not be looked at as a permanent obstacle.
According to his newsletter, “Research suggests that losing strength and muscle takes approximately three weeks of inactivity. And if you’re more interested in your endurance, you can take off two weeks before seeing a noticeable change.” He emphasized that just because you have missed a few days or even taken an extended break, this does not necessarily undo all the progress that you have made.
However,
“It’s easy to feel worse when you break your routine or get off track because you assume you’ve done damage. But whether you’re traveling, taking a vacation, or getting sick — don’t stress or worry about short breaks from your routine,” stated Schwarzenegger. He assured that the body can bounce back, and with consistent effort can regain its growth relatively. In addition, a few days back, he opened up about a technique that can be used to reduce weight when one can’t engage in normal exercises.Arnie reveals a fun way to regain one’s strength
Schwarzenegger unveiled a fun way to reduce weight with rucking exercise. Rucking is a simple and effective way to turn your regular walk into a supercharged workout. It involves walking, jogging, or marching with a weighted backpack. In the newsletter, Schwarzenegger mentioned that this is popular among the military, and it can help others as well.

Rucking also has multiple benefits, besides physical health, it also helps improve mental wellness. “Rucking appeared to improve mood and reduce perceived exertion- meaning people could push harder without it feeling as draining,” per Schwarzenegger. The newsletter also delved into some research that found that people who did a 10-week program that combined rucking with resistance training became much stronger in activities like squat jumps, push-ups, and sit-ups.
