The 7x Mr. Olympia champion never failed to inspire his followers with sheer hard work. Despite being in his late seventies, Schwarzenegger is actively spreading the fitness message through his newsletter, ‘Arnold’s Pump Club.’ The Austrian Oak’s new book is another example of his relentless quest to ‘Be Useful’ like his father suggested during childhood.

While interviewing the Governator for his podcast, Rich Roll reflected on how Arnold Schwarzenegger’s life transitioned from being a self-oriented athlete and actor to a philanthropist and asked the bodybuilding icon to comment. “You’re absolutely right, but one should not forget that when you start out you don’t have much to give back. So, you first have to build yourself, and it became clear to me that the more I built myself and the bigger I become, the more I can give back.”

Arnie also recalled his father-in-law’s inspirational speech while reflecting on the thought of giving back to society. “I heard Sargent Shriver, my father-in-law talk at Yale University at a commencement speech. He said to the students, ‘Break that mirror that you always look at. Break that mirror that makes you always look at yourself, and you will be able to look beyond that mirror and to see the millions of people that need your help,” Arnie shared Maria Shriver’s dad’s words with Rich Roll. Earlier, the Austrian Oak confessed about how his father’s advice inspired the title of his latest book.

The Governator is striving to help people in his fourth quarter of life. While Arnie’s first three quarters have been illustrious, his fourth resonates with the childhood values that his father taught him. Making the most of his father’s advice to “Be Useful” the bodybuilding icon started a fitness newsletter spreading the message of health and wellbeing.

Now, Schwarzenegger’s latest self-help book is titled “Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life,” which was inspired by his father’s words. “Be Useful’ because this is what my father always said – Arnold be useful don’t just waste your time on yourself,” Schwarzenegger once confessed while speaking about the book.
