Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a part of several successful franchises. He has excelled in most of the roles he has been rewarded with an illustrious career, so much so that he has become synonymous with the roles he’s portrayed. 

However, with such a long-term career, also comes the role of taking up wrong choices. Now, Arnie would tell you he hardly regrets any of the acting decisions he’s made but there is always that one, isn’t there? And he blames his dear friend Bruce Willis for it.

So the story goes that he ended up trading a $1.4 B franchise. The Bodybuilding Titan still regrets turning down Die Hard, which would eventually go to Bruce Willis, who would make the role of John McClan the household name that it is today.  If Arnie would not have rejected it, the franchise could have been the game changer in his life.

Of course, all has worked out for the Austrian Oak, as he starred in some of the highest-grossing movies of all time but imagine, what Die Hard would have been with the Terminator at its helm.

But that’s just how the world works. Arnie too has found himself at the right place at the right time and made connections with people that helped him throughout his career, bodybuilding and Hollywood alike. 

Joe Weider, the co-founder of the IFBB, and also an instrumental figure in creating Mr. Olympia, is often given a major credit in discovering Arnold Schwarzenegger and creating his bodybuilding career. Apart from that, Weider is also credited with launching him in movies.

He spoke in favor of The Austrian Oak with one of his connections, when they came knocking asking for a bodybuilder to be part of a special little project. He said, “You will get the best bodybuilder in the world. Schwarzenegger is your guy. He is extraordinary. His stage presence is outstanding.” Of course the Austrian Oak’s unique accent was a hindrance to his career in the beginning but as time passed, his uniqueness stood out and his name was enough for people to buy tickets.
