The Former Mr. Olympia cited a recent 20-year review to showcase how engaging in high-intensity exercise can reduce the risk of metastatic cancer by over 70%. Metastatic cancer refers to the spread of cancer to other parts of the body, like the lungs or liver. According to the newsletter, this study is among the first to explore the link between exercise and the growth of secondary cancer cells.
Arnie further explained that after the study, scientists discovered that exercise creates what they call an “exercise-induced metabolic shield.” Simply put, working out intensely boosts your immune system, making it better at recognizing and eliminating cancer cells. “The study also suggests that high-intensity exercise makes it harder for cancer cells to survive and grow,” claimed the newsletter.
He then asked his followers if they were ready to take on this challenge. “The name of the game is intensity,” the Austrian Oak wrote, adding that one should aim for at least 80 percent of their maximum heart rate during a workout. However, if you can’t push that hard, do not worry, “Research suggests that even walking can lead to a 20 percent reduction in the likelihood of cancer.”
His message is clear. Exercise, regardless of the intensity, is a powerful tool in the fight against cancer. Whether you’re hitting the gym for a high-intensity session or taking a brisk walk in the park, every movement contributes to protecting your health. Previously, he had emphasized the benefits of a simple walk.
Walking can help prevent the onset of diabetes: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Earlier in his newsletter, Schwarzenegger urged everyone to combat diabetes by walking more. He shared a groundbreaking study that looked at various research over eight years, linking walking speed to the onset of type-2 diabetes.
The study revealed that those who walked fastest (around 4 miles per hour) had a 39% lower risk, even a slow pace walk (2 miles per hour) showed a 15% reduction and a brisk pace walk (3 miles per hour) led to a 25 percent decrease in type-2 diabetes risk. Schwarzenegger emphasized that picking up the pace was crucial in the fight against diabetes.
