The newest edition of the newsletter discussed how some experts have speculated that indulging in coffee right after waking up can set off a chain reaction in the body, potentially leading to decreased energy levels and the dreaded afternoon crash. “As an alternative, it’s been suggested that your body could make better use of caffeine if you wait one to two hours after waking,” highlighted Arnie in the newsletter.
A team of researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis of over 200 studies to address various concerns related to caffeine consumption. They explored common questions such as whether caffeine leads to dehydration or causes bone-mineral loss. Findings indicated that the water content in coffee can offset its diuretic effects until consumption exceeds five cups and if it contributes to bone-mineral loss, it was primarily observed in women consuming more than four cups daily.
“So when should you have your first cup? According to the current research, it appears you can choose when to take your first sip.” Whether you prefer to savor your coffee immediately upon waking or opt to wait, the evidence suggests that delaying consumption does not necessarily prevent an afternoon slump or negatively impact cognitive function, energy levels, or sleep.
Schwarzenegger, therefore, emphasized the importance of doing what works best for each individual. Whether you feel more energized waiting for your morning brew or prefer to indulge right away, the key is to listen to your body and find a routine that enhances your overall well-being. That being said, Arnie did have some thoughts on excessive coffee intake as well.
Coffee can help prevent heart health!
The bodybuilding legend further explained that while coffee can be good for health, having too much of it can lead to problems. He mentioned a study involving 390,000 people, which showed that moderate coffee intake could lower the risk of heart and respiratory diseases.
However, drinking six or more cups daily can increase the risk by 25 percent. Arnie warned that excessive caffeine intake could cause jitteriness, stomach upsets, and headaches. He further advised sticking to around two to three cups or 400 milligrams of coffee per day for safety, but also mentioned the importance of considering individual health conditions.
Schwarzenegger’s insights challenge conventional wisdom regarding morning coffee consumption, empowering individuals to make informed choices based on their preferences and experiences. So, go ahead and enjoy that first cup of coffee whenever it suits you best. The benefits may surprise you!
