The bodybuilding veteran said performance-enhancing drugs are common in all professional sports. However, the Ironman Pro winner also pointed out that other sports do not discuss the prevalence of steroid use.?“You won’t go on an NFL page where they’re discussing steroids… This linebacker is so big because he’s eating 10,000 calories doing a bit of deca,”?Priest said.

The NABBA Mr. Universe winner had a point as over the years, countless players at the highest level have committed dipping violations. Athletes from different sports, even Olympic athletes, have had their gold medals taken away after investigations found them guilty of doping. However, Priest pointed out that bodybuilders are the only ones who talk about steroids.

While many are trying to educate aspiring bodybuilders, others are not.?“They do those podcasts and bodybuilders they’ll post on Instagram or Facebook, ‘Get your questions in.’ 80% are just on drugs,”?said the 51-year-old. Priest believes the disturbing trend is promoting steroid use among young people who follow many of these influencers.

“It’s like these people think the only thing missing, that’s stopping them from being great are drugs,”?said the bodybuilders. However, bodybuilding at an elite level requires much more than PEDs. Lee Priest, who took steroids at 19, knew it better than most.

Why the Austrian bodybuilding icon took steroids

The Australian bodybuilding icon took to bodybuilding when he was a teen. The former Mr. Universe started lifting weights at 13 and stayed natural until 19. Priest’s dedication and genetics helped him win amateur shows at a national level. However, as he set his eyes on the professional circuit, he realized he couldn’t compete with the pro as a natural.
