Unlocking the secret to a sharper mind might be as simple as adding a delicious dish to your weekly menu: fish. Yes! You heard it right! The bodybuilding icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger, isn’t just talking about fish for its muscle-building protein punch; he’s advocating for its cognitive benefits too.
“Cognitive decline is a part of aging — but it doesn’t have to be that way,” asserted Schwarzenegger in his latest newsletter edition. He showcased research that has unveiled a compelling link between fish consumption and cognitive prowess, shedding light on the tantalizing prospect of eating your way to a stronger brain.

At the heart of this cognitive treasure trove lies DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid abundantly found in fish. DHA isn’t merely a nutritional powerhouse; it emerges as a potent guardian of brain health, poised to ward off the ravages of age-related decline.
According to the newsletter, a recent study found that “those who ate more omega-3 had increased brain volume in the structure (the hippocampus) that influences learning and memory. They also showed better abstract reasoning and reduced incidence of cardiovascular disease and dementia.” Interestingly, studies have showcased the manifold benefits of DHA-rich diets, particularly in fortifying memory and intelligence against the relentless march of time.
In addition, Arnie also highlighted a previous study, showcasing the mental sharpness of adults aged 35 to 54 with higher DHA levels. These adults excelled in reasoning, memory, and flexibility tests. Scientists explored the link between eating fish and brainpower and found that regular fish consumption boosts abstract thinking and lowers the risks of heart disease and dementia. Furthermore, research also suggested that “eating fish at least two times per week (a four or six-ounce serving) can provide the DHA levels that might help your brain.”
Alternatively, taking fish oil supplements providing 2,000 milligrams of DHA weekly offers similar cognitive perks. Besides that, did you know that eating fish once or twice a week can reduce bad headaches?
Can eating fish cure headaches?
Well, in a previous newsletter, Arnie shared valuable insights on headache remedies, backed by research and natural solutions. He emphasized how new research suggests that fish oil could ease bad headaches. The study involved nearly 200 individuals experiencing 5 to 20 headaches monthly.
The Terminator shared that over 16 weeks, participants were split into two groups, with one consuming high omega-3 fatty acids from fish like salmon and sardines. He further explained those consuming more fish oil reported fewer headaches, better sleep, reduced stress, and improved overall health. Researchers attribute these benefits to the pain-relieving molecule 17-HDMA produced by Omega Fatty acids.
