Often surrounded by accusations of relying on shortcuts for a super-jacked physique, Mike O’Hearn stands as a testament to the power of mastering the craft. He candidly shares the tricks and methods that have propelled him to look phenomenal even at 55.

Recently, the former Mr. Universe (Natural), posted a workout video on his YouTube channel. While taking a break after an intense set of squats, the bodybuilding Adonis talked about how the transition from martial arts to power bodybuilding was a great deal: because he faced a few shocking statements on how to gain muscle. However, instead of listening to the traditional saying, O’Hearn found his way to sculpt his body.

In the video, O’Hearn candidly revealed, that the magic lies in the percentages, where the weights feel manageable, allowing you to feel conscious engagement in each exercise. It’s not just about lifting; it’s about making a strong connection between the muscle and body.

Moreover, he highlighted the significance of this phase, where the weight may feel surprisingly light, enabling individuals to take their time and truly connect with the movements. “When I transferred to bodybuilding I couldn’t understand people saying I have to lift light or I can’t isolate and I’m like wow that’s such a shame, that you never mastered this beautiful craft to be able to move heavy weight and isolate.” According to him, it’s a shame for those who never master the delicate balance of moving heavy weights while isolating specific muscles.

Mike O’Hearn’s approach to staying thick even in late years

Mike continued further, “And again these are just simple reasons why I’m still as thick as big as strong as I am today is because I got to be able to do that relative again stress to the body, you doing lightweight you’re going to represent that lightweight.” O’Hearn recommends that this is the time to experiment, questioning whether pauses or flexes are necessary. It’s about enjoying the process and finding what works better for you.

O’Hearn dispels the notion that lifting a light weight automatically equals muscle retention. He explains that it’s more complicated – our bodies react to challenges, and lifting light weights might not give the push needed to hold onto or grow muscles. It’s not just about lifting; it’s about regularly lifting heavier weights to keep those well-earned muscles intact.

O’Hearn’s emphasis on being able to look phenomenal even at an older age lies in the balance between moving heavy weights and precise isolation. It’s a dynamic approach that has kept him thick, big, and strong even in his fifties.

Besides, O’hearn and many other bodybuilders have talked about this theory of having a connection between the mind-muscle for optimal growth, do you agree with them?
