Four times, Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler left a lasting legacy for himself through his successful bodybuilding career. Apart from influencing and inspiring countless individuals with his fitness and bodybuilding journey, ‘The Comeback Kid’ proved to the world that with dedication and hard work, anything is possible to achieve.

However, despite all the fame and money that he had, he went through a rough phase in his life, too. Numerous experienced bodybuilders have candidly discussed their battles with mental health challenges. Jay Cutler, for instance, shared his perspective on how years of rigorous training and strict dieting seemed to limit his options. However, he later discovered that bodybuilding can also provide opportunities. In a recent revelation, he spoke about his struggles with introversion and mental health issues and highlighted the significance of relationships in life.

Cutler was born on a small farm in Sterling, Massachusetts, United States. Cutler’s parents got divorced when he was four years old. As he and his siblings had a huge age gap, it only made sense for his brothers and sisters to take care of baby Jay. However, he soon had to go out and start earning.

During his time at Wachusett Regional High School, Jay crossed paths with Kerry Cutler, and they dated for nearly a decade. Kerry played a significant role in inspiring and backing his ambition to pursue bodybuilding professionally. It’s reported that she even helped him in leaving his family home and fully supported his journey as an athlete. They eventually got married on July 9, 1998, at a ceremony held in the Rio Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. Regrettably, after a decade of marriage, the bodybuilder Jay Cutler went through a divorce. It’s worth noting that Kerry and Jay did not have any children together.

Talking about the importance of relationships in one’s life, Cutler stated during the recent episode of his podcast, ‘Cutler Cast’, that everyone in this world longs for love and care. He revealed that he started to wonder, “Am I going to date again? Like…Relationships are big…like something in people’s lives, you know, you always like to have comfort and you like to feel like people want to be around you,” he rightly said.

Cutler admits that this was when he realized that he needed to come out of this slump. He understood that bodybuilding is just one thing; the sport has the potential to open up many more gates. He created his own line of supplements and businesses. The fire burnt so brightly that he even continued to dethrone the ‘King’ himself. However, he later admitted that despite winning the title, he still believed that he did not win against the best version of Ronnie Coleman.
