Legendary Hollywood action icon Dolph Lundgren shared the silver screen with the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and many more. In 2018, Lundgren returned to the big screen after reprising his role as Ivan Dargo in Creed 2 and will star in the upcoming Aquaman 2. However, in an exclusive interview with Graham Bensinger, the 80s actions star revealed he’s battling cancer for eight years. Doctors first found and removed cancerous kidney tumors in 2015, but in 2020 he had to go under the knife again.?

During his conversation with Bensinger, Dolph Lundgren held nothing back. When the renowned reporter asked about steroid use, the Swedish actor admitted to using them. The 65-year-old also contemplated the role those steroids played in his cancer diagnosis.

Dolph Lundgren gets candid about his thoughts
Graham Bensinger asked the martial artist turned actor,?“What about steroids?”?The 65-year-old replied that he used performance-enhancing drugs?“in the 80s (and) 90s. I don’t know if it has anything to do with the cancer.”?However, that hasn’t stopped Lundgren from making a connection.?“Is that something you’ve really thought about?” asked the reporter.

Lundgren revealed that he did think about what he had done to his body when he got diagnosed.?“You always think that you’ve made a mistake in your… health care,”?the Rocky IV actor said.?“Maybe it’s only me, but you kind of kind of blame yourself to some degree,”?added the 65-year-old.

Lundgren further elaborated on the particular steroids he thinks might play a role in cancer. The martial artist said he thought,?“testosterone therapy and HGH, growth hormone therapy,” might be factors for causing cancer in some people. Lundgren also compared his PED usage with professional bodybuilders and why he stopped.

How much did the actor use compared to a pro bodybuilder?
The veteran actor revealed he used PEDs,?“on and off”?for about a decade from the 80s to the mid-90s. However, the dosage depended on the movie he did. Despite that, Lundgren named a ballpark figure of?“150 milligrams a week.”?While the amount he used was?“quite a bit,”?the Swedish actor also noted it was much less than what competitive bodybuilders use.

“I hear guys who are doing a thousand twelve hundred milligrams (testosterone) a week and anabolic steroids on top of it,”?revealed Lundgren. The 65-year-old said he stopped using PEDs because he stopped doing movies demanding him to take his?“shirt off in every scene.”

While there is no proof using steroids caused his kidney cancer, Dolph Lundgren can’t be sure they didn’t play a role. Lundgren is also among the few active actors who have admitted to using steroids.
