Cardio is perhaps the most common and well-known way of weight loss and fitness for most, and even for the?bodybuilding?community. Now if someone, even if he is an ISSA-certified coach, says that they have cut off cardio from their routine and seen benefits, it might sound baffling, right? Coach Greg agrees that it undeniably is surprising, so he decided to do a YouTube video about it.

Remington James is a well-known fitness coach and nutritionist. He devises meal plans and training for his clients for weight loss. IFBB pro coach Greg Doucette has raised his concern about James cutting off cardio completely.

In the YouTube video, coach Greg starts by talking about how Remington James is giving up cardio completely. The first disclaimer that Doucette gives is that he will keep an open mind while watching and reviewing Remington?s video on the matter. Doucette explained to his audience why people do cardio in the first place.?“You need to be in a deficit to lose weight, and if you?re not, you?re gonna gain weight. So, he decided to quit doing cardio, which burns calories to burn more fat,”?Greg said.

Doucette also suggests that ‘Maingain’ (which is to maintain your body weight while gaining strength in the gym and ideally gaining a little muscle mass as well) is better than bulking and cutting.?“Rather than bulking, cutting, what I suggest is that you Maingain at a healthy body fat percentage,” explained Doucette. Greg seems skeptical about Remington?s decision to not do cardio since he has always promoted it in the past.

The IFBB pro does not believe Remington when he says that he stopped cardio due to a hand injury. The 47-year-old went through two bike accidents. He had surgeries on his hands, yet he does cardio, so Remington?s idea did not budge the IFBB pro. However, Doucette also gave James the benefit of the doubt, since he is still learning, according to Greg. Finally, Doucette does agree that doing too much cardio is harmful to health and that only moderate cardio is feasible. Greg showed this similar skepticism over Mike O?Hearn?s cutting while doing cardio.

In a previous video, Doucette suspected that?the Titan might be taking steroids again since he was doing cardio while cutting to get shredded. “Mike, who says you should only do cardio when dieting well I wonder why the guy seems to be on a perpetual cut almost 365 days a year. He was cutting for months, then finished his cut, and then went on a bulk, lo and behold, a couple of weeks later he already has to cut back down again,”?said a confused Greg.

Despite this, Mike and Doucette agree at one point, which is that cardio must be done sensibly. Rather than resorting to excessive cardio or crash dieting, O?Hearn advocates for a slow and gradual approach.

This strategy resonates with the idea of maintaining a healthy body fat percentage. This is also without falling into an unhealthy cycle of drastic changes. Coach Greg ultimately advocates for moderate cardio and a balanced diet. Are you on the same page with the bodybuilding pros? Tell us in the comments.
