6X Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates’ chiseled physique in his heydays was something that the bodybuilding fans admired at that time and still do. His incredible physique and perfect muscles did not come easy, as he did a lot of training to achieve it. However, Dorian wasn’t completely natty. Dorian pulled down the curtains on professional bodybuilding and the intake of steroids along with the aspects of bloating that can be seen in bodybuilders at times.
In a YouTube short video, he talked about how he used to take steroids and hormonal medicines. However, he also outlined the fact that the steroids were taken in a medically supervised amount, and did not cause any intense harm to him.

In the video, taken from Joe Rogan’s podcast, Yates talks about taking steroids and growth hormones and denies some of the myths associated with them. He says, “I am taking steroids for this sport because I’m a professional. When I’m not competing, I’m not gonna take them, so stop taking them.”
He further stated, “And also I took growth hormones and that was the thing. A lot of people think that growth hormone is going to increase the size of your internal organs, and that’s why you guys are getting bloated in the waistline.” He concluded by saying that he had a lot of organ tests done to measure his internal organs, and none of them increased in size.
Dorian guessed that maybe the bloating happened due to fat accumulating around the internal organs. It could also be a lot of water retention in the intestines that can bloat the waist. He finally said, “The short answer is, I don’t really know.” During the podcast, Joe showed a picture of an athlete with a huge bloated belly (turtle shell, as he called it), and Dorian guessed that it could be insulin. He also said that IGF and Insulin can bloat the stomach.
Dorian’s use of steroids during his career
Yates had once revealed his stance on the use of steroids in order to enhance projection. ‘The Shadow’ talked about the secret behind his chiseled body and what the young bodybuilders were lacking.
