The Mr. Olympia stands as the pinnacle of success in the realm of bodybuilding. Nearly six decades old, the contest is one of the most anticipated sports events in the world. As this year’s Mr. Olympia just came to an exciting end, Derek Lunsford dethroned the reigning champion Hadi Choopan.

Hadi Choopan walks away from Derek Lunsford

Hadi Choopan, who lifted the Sandow at last year’s contest was looking forward to adding another title under his belt. However, former 212 champion Derek Lunsford came in between Choopan and his goals. As Lunsford absolutely dominated the whole lineup with his insane back, he won this year’s title, becoming the first bodybuilder ever to win in two different categories. As Derek was announced the champion, Choopan seemed frustrated by this and left the stage abruptly. 

Reporting the same, a fitness and bodybuilding-related page on Instagram posted a video of the incident and wrote, “@hadi_choopan left the stage angry after losing the title.” This led to many fans debating about this in the comments, as many of them pointed out how this can negatively affect the sport. While many called out Choopan for the rude act, there were a few who took his side as well.

Raising fingers on his sportsmanship, one of the users commented on the post, saying, “There goes his chance to win another title in future,” while another fan stated, “Hate to see sore losing, I understand it’s very emotional. But you need to power through that, that is a bad look for the future. At least he did hug him and stay for 1 pose, hate to see it though.”

Another criticizing comment from a fan read, “That was very childish of him,” while defending the former champion, a person stated, “Guys…he’s hard of hearing and doesn’t speak much English. Give him a break.” Paying attention to the slightest details, a user pointed out, “He even took the medal off his chest, a terrible ambassador for the sport”
