Chuck Kirkendall, famously known as Kali Muscle is an American Youtuber, actor, bodybuilder author, and model who has appeared in several famous commercials for companies such as Snickers and Honda. He has established his name in the bodybuilding world through his social media presence and his candid nature on YouTube. The 48-year-old has also revealed the darker side behind all the fame. His life was not always hunky dory as it is today, as he also faced numerous negative experiences during a stint in jail.

This wasn’t all. Due to the consequences of his diet and not getting proper nutrition while he was in jail, he had a heart attack later in his life, which, although not fatal, still changed his perspective.

He had already faced a tough childhood and had been imprisoned for 11 years. He was a born athlete and a three-sport competitor who was so capable that he earned a football scholarship to Fresno State. However, during his time in college, he got arrested and was given an 11-year sentence.

He went to jail in San Quentin prison for armed robbery. Even then, Muscle did not leave his love for bodybuilding and used to train inside the prison gym every day to add size until unfortunately one day the guards took away the weights in 1997.

Even then, they could not stop the champion from making his gains and he used whatever he could get on his hands that could work as heavyweights. Muscle used water bottles, pulling ropes, and even fellow inmates’ weight for push-ups and squats.

However, even if he did get huge during his time in jail, the nutrition that was important for bodybuilding was not available properly. Regardless of a poor diet, he still became a mass monster, but this started taking a toll on his body and finally, when he left prison and was trying to move on with his life, he had a heart attack.

Muscle’s junk diet and the consequent heart attack

Numerous times, Muscle has talked about his junk food diet as well as steroid intake. In a previous YouTube video, he confessed his mistakes to the audience and preached a healthy diet to avoid dangerous troubles for his health. His diet that led to the heart attack consisted of ramen, burgers, greasy food, and other oily food like chips and coke.

While giving insights on the situation, Muscle revealed that he was eating all the worst food possible for those 11 years and that junk food had clogged his body. All those years of eating junk food hit him when he was 46 years old and gave him a heart attack.

Fortunately, the heart attack was controlled, and he was saved after hospitalization. It was following this incident that he changed his lifestyle and said, “Obviously, I’m eating no more meat…so I was eating fish, rice, added salads into my diet, a lot of water. And this is after the heart attack.”

Apart from the food habits, another factor that led to his heart attack was steroid abuse. Performance-enhancing drugs and steroids, if taken in extremes, are known to clog the heart and arteries which can generally lead to a heart attack. Since Kali Muscle already had faced a tragedy in 2021, he had to stop his steroid cycle to recover. After this incident in his life, he completely transformed his lifestyle and diet and even resorted to numerous fasting regimes.

An epiphany that changed his life

Kali Muscle has already changed his ways since he had a heart attack in 2021. Having mended his ways, he speaks against the use of steroids and has even admitted to only eating one meal per day. He also had a huge epiphany after encountering a particular man and realized that what we have been taught about food is all wrong.

Kali Muscle had seen a video of an Indian Sage who survived for 70 years without food or drink and his whole perspective changed. Prahlad Jani was an Indian sage who claimed to have lived the final 79 years of his life without any food or water. Of course, many may not believe this claim about the man who passed away at the age of 90 in 2020. But Muscle begged to differ. During a previous episode of Escape Fitness, Kali spoke about this man and he believes that we have always had the wrong information about food. Since this epiphany, he changed his diet and even went on an all-watermelon diet for 9 days, which made him drop to 188 pounds.
