Most people know Tobey Maguire as the title character of the Spider-Man trilogy, Peter Parker. Maguire beautifully encapsulated the highs and lows of Peter as he crossed the threshold of his college days. His portrayal of the duality of a commoner by day and a superhero by night was an instant hit with viewers. However, many fans do not know the hard work Maguire put in to get into the character’s look.
The 48-year-old actor has always sported a lean physique, but the movie needed him to be physically fit for various action scenes. Moreover, he also had to look ripped, once bitten by the genetically modified super spider. Earlier, a YouTube video posted a detailed account of Maguire’s nutrition and workout plan that helped him get jacked for the movie in six months.

Taking to YouTube, Paris Demers posted a video that deconstructs Peter Parker’s training program. In the body transformation analysis, Demers mentions that Maguire is a strict vegetarian. Furthermore, the actor stuck to his eating patterns despite having to build muscles for the role. The host said, “We really should be referring to Toby as spinach man instead of Spider-Man because he was on a 100-vegetarian diet.”
The YouTuber concluded that it is extremely difficult to gain weight on a vegetarian diet. He also pointed out that the lack of essential amino acids, the building blocks of protein, acts as an impediment. To tackle the nutritional challenge, Maguire needed extensive support.
“He needed to hire a nutritionist who planned out every single one of his five meals that he had …”, added the concerned Youtuber. The 48-year-old also trained very hard to acquire the perfect look. He used a combination of strength training, martial arts, and bodybuilding. Demers was extra focused on the lack of chicken in the famous actor’s diet. He was concerned that a no-meat diet is a tougher road to bodybuilding. However, fans had mixed reactions to Demer’s position on vegetarianism/veganism. Netizens flocked to the comments section to register their views.

A long time ago, actor Dwayne Johnson also took a dig at Spider-Man, saying that he wasn’t too sure about Maguire’s fighting prowess. He said, “But I’m not too sure Tobey Maguire could kick my or a lot of other people’s a**es.” However, fans sided with Maguire, cheering on the fictional character that has left a deep impact on Marvel Cinematic Universe. One netizen said, “Tobey Maguire is still my favorite live-action Spider-Man, his movies aged like fine wine (except Spiderman 3).
Another follower voicing similar affection added, “Hands down the greatest Spider-Man of all time.” A netizen also pointed out that Maguire may not have needed so much supervision for the training. The follower commented, “He’s physique was great and pretty achievable without ‘help.'” At the start of the video, the YouTuber mentioned that the actor may have never set foot in the gym. A fan made it a point to correct the host by saying, “I think Tobey did work out but not very consistently. That was before his movie prep. He and Raimi did a screen test to convince the studio he was fit for the role. Unitard down and all.”

Some people also took an interest in the meat/spinach debate. They pointed out, “For those who don’t understand, vegans and vegetarians aren’t scared of chickens, but they feel as if it’s wrong to eat meat because the animals that they are derived from have a life too. I’m not a vegan or a vegetarian in fact I proudly eat chicken and I’d do it in their face too. Just clarifying.”
