In the book ‘The Rise of Mike Tyson, Heavyweight’, author William F. McNeil, in chapter 3, titled ‘The Birth of a Boxer’ even mentioned the story of a friend who had offered “the Catskill boxer the benefit of his mistakes” of doing drugs. Drugs have often stayed near Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champion’s late mother, Lorna Tyson, who would go by Lorna Kirkpatrick following her relationship with Jimmy Kirkpatrick, earned herself a reputation for excessively depending on alcohol. According to Tyson, his biological father, Jimmy Kirkpatrick, was a drug dealer and a p**p.
Frequently, Lorna’s boyfriends would bring liquor and cigarettes to her apartment and some of them would even physically abuse her. However, later in his career, Mike Tyson realized the destructiveness of drugs. After the Joe Frazier fight, Tyson took a working vacation.
