Blizzard Studio and Community Pays Tribute to Late Streamer

Popular Twitch streamer Byron Bernstein aka Reckful died on the 2nd of July, leaving the whole WoW community in shock. Reckful was a well-known World Of Warcraft player. After he took his own life, the WoW community felt his loss across the world. On the 6th of August, Blizzard added a new NPC to the game paying tribute to Reckful. It is never easy to lose a player who inspired so many others. Multiple viewers on his Twitch channel joined the game as they watched him acquire 3000 rating in PvP.

Right after his passing, players in the community paid tribute to Reckful by gathering in the Stormwind Cathedral and Grommash Hold.

This was the scene across many servers.

On the 6th of August, Blizzard paid their tribute in the most permanent way possible. The Cathedral of Light will now host Azeroth’s newest Shadowlands NPC, Reckful. Generally, other Rouge trainers are located in the Old Town; nonetheless, Blizzard placed Reckful exactly where the memorials in Byron’s name took place. This is not the first time Reckful has had an NPC to his name. The NPC Byron Burnside was added as a tribute too, a good while ago.

Blizzard has done the same loads of times. On the demise of a WoW persona, they usually add an NPC as a tribute. Take, for example, Robin after Robin Williams, Stanley after Stan Lee or Captain P. Harris after Discovery channel show host Captain Phil Harris.

Blizzard optimizes the NPC in remembrance of Reckless

The new NPC has some unique touches to it. Reckful has a solitary dialogue which states, “I don’t train assassination rouges.”

A player interacting with Reckful can choose from options available to say, “It was good seeing you again.” There were some other features too that players later discovered. It seems like the character sprouts wings and reacts to messages.

This was indeed a wonderful way to express respect to a player so beloved in the community. Players all around have reacted in the most positive manner to this addition. People remember Reckful for the skilled player he was and for his contribution towards the game. It was even reported, after his death, that he was working on his own game.
