Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alpha version of the multiplayer was available on PS4 over the weekend. The alpha version gave a lot of information on how the final game is going to look like. Additionally, many players who had access to the alpha have released gameplay and other important information. From this, we can get a fair idea about how the maps, characters, animations, guns, modes, and ranks will be like.

Call of Duty YouTube channel ‘TheXclusiveAce’ recently uploaded a video comparing Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. In the video, he included a graphics comparison between the two games. Furthermore, he compared the guns and their animations from both the games.

Given the timeline of the game, Cold War’s guns definitely look older, while those in MW look much more modern. The guns in Cold War have wooden stocks and grips as compared to carbon fiber or plastic in MW. Apart from this, the guns in Modern Warfare look like they have more of a recoil kick than those in Cold War.

Moreover, Cold War guns have a toyish feel to them. The reload animations, recoil, and sounds don’t seem as realistic as they do in Modern Warfare. However, guns in Cold War produce a lot more smoke, sometimes, to the extent that players can’t see where they are shooting.

The AK-47 retains its classic look in both the games. Apart from the general sound and graphics, the biggest difference between the two is the reload animation. While the AK from Modern Warfare has the popular single hand reload animation, the character in Cold War switches his hand to cock the gun. Apart from this, the character ejects the empty mag while jerking it with the new one in MW. On the other hand, the CW character pulls out the empty mag using his hands.

The 1911 in Cold War has the retro shiny finish to it, making it historically accurate. Both games have almost similar reload animations. The only difference is between the looks and the sounds of the guns, with the MW version having a bit of a thump to it and the CW one sounding a bit suppressed.
