While accidents happen in the blink of an eye, they have rather long-lasting effects and scars that don’t let the memory fade so easily. Given the impact, while some are forced to give up, some force fate and fight back to get to the top. One of those fighters is talented skier, Colby Stevenson. A story like no other, tragedy struck in Colby’s life, five and a half years ago. However, overcoming it all, the US Winter Olympian now prepares to make his debut at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

His story from nearly losing his life in an accident to performing at the Winter Olympics is truly extraordinary. For the same, fans cannot wait to see him perform.

An inspiring Winter Olympian

During a day when his friend John Michael Fabrizi suffered a knee injury, Stevenson and his friend decided to drive back to their homes. However, on the way back, he suffered a serious accident that caused a fracture to his skull. Soon after the paramedics arrived, he was rushed in for emergency surgery, with uncertainty lingering over his future.

Often, brain injuries lead to permanent scars and other life-altering complications. Undoubtedly, even though he was on the road to recovery, the journey was long, strenuous, and far from comforting and helpful. With all the complications he had, Stevenson was not sure whether he would be able to ski again. Considering giving up the sport he loved so dearly, Stevenson recently opened up on the thoughts that gripped his mind then.

“There were definitely times where I thought I wished I had died in the crash. You know maybe I?d have gone out with a legacy or something because I thought my life was just over at that time. I just couldn?t believe what had happened. It just seemed like a bad dream,” said Stevenson.

Road to recovery

With loads of determination and help, Colby started walking around the house, doing day-t0-day activities. Soon, he was riding a bike; a significant step towards the ultimate goal. Slowly and steadily, Stevenson got back on the slopes. With skiing is in his blood as he says, his determination to come back from a life-threatening injury demands respect and adulation.

Come what may, Colby Stevenson is set to make his debut in the Olympics. The Winter Olympian would hope to land a podium finish, to gift him the perfect comeback reward. But, whether he wins or loses, Stevenson is an icon and an inspiration for all. Truly, he is the one true example of the, ‘it is not over until it is finished.’
