The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics has started with a bang. However, despite the great start to the Olympics, there have been many collisions and accidents. That has risen during the training session of the slopestyle competition. Japan’s snowboarding talent, Rina Yoshika, had a nasty fall during a jump and suffered from serious injuries.

The incident happened at the Genting Snow Park where the snowboarder was practicing her tricks. Having mistimed a high jump, she fell to the ground and brought great concern amongst the fans.

The practice sessions were customary sessions for snowboarders. Thus, during a jump, she suffered a heavy fall from a tall slope that led her motionless for some time. When the paramedics came to tend her, she cried in pain as she felt the full force of the impact.

Moving her was an impossible task at first, as she suffered a spinal fracture from diagnosis. Hence, the medics took some time to get her from her precarious position.

With the help of a stretcher, the medics pulled her away. It took about 20 minutes. An ambulance took her to a local facility while she returns home from there. The Japanese Olympic Committee issued a statement speaking about the incident and how the athlete suffered a serious injury.

After receiving medical treatment in China, she would be shifted back to Japan, for further treatment. After years of practice, it is sad to see an athlete’s dreams being crushed at the last moment.

Other competitors to step in

While the number 12 ranked Yoshika is out of the competition, other competitors step up. Reira Iwabuchi, Kokomo Murase, and Miyabi Onitsuka will be the leading medal contenders for their country.

The slopestyle competition is one of the most dangerous competitions in the world. Hence, these new competitors would hope to put this disappointment behind them and become superstars for their country at the Winter Olympics.

It’s not easy to see a talented snowboarder go out injured. But, sometimes, things are not in your control. Hoping for the best, everyone prays for Rina Yoshika to recover from her injury.
