The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics saw Chloe Kim winning the gold medal in the half-pipe competition. Significantly, she was a young snowboard champion who raised her level year after year. Now, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics potentially has a new Chloe Kim. The young 18-year-old, Eileen Gu, won the gold medal at the recently introduced Olympic big air freestyle skiing competition.

Even though she represents China at the Olympics, she had a connection with the USA; being born there.

US skier wins gold at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

The incredible Gu landed the massive double cork 1620 in her third run to fetch her the gold medal. They introduced the big air freestyle competition this year, and it received its first winner. In the meantime, Gu was born in San Francisco as she has American roots. Her mother Yan Gu got married to an American as she attended university in the States. From there, things started to change for the talented Gu.

Her mother had this love of skiing while she studied at her university. By putting her daughter to the ski school, she developed her into a sensational pro-skier.

Following her mother’s passion for skiing, she will enroll herself at Stanford University after this, as she scored great SAT scores. Not only is she a terrific skier, but she is a brilliant mind in academics as well. Now, that’s a rare combination to have; a gold medal at the Olympics and SAT scores of 1580.

The talented Gu is a threat to many skiers as of now. Not only did she win the big air competition, but she has also won gold medals across various events in snowboarding.

During the Aspern World Championships in 2021, she won gold medals in the half-pipe and slopestyle competitions, proving she can come big in other events. On the other hand, she has an interest in modeling as well.
