BCCI chief Dalmiya has passed away in hospital after a heart attack. He was admitted on thursday, following a cardiac arrest. 75 year old Dalmiya’s health has been a concern since he began his 3rd term as President in March.

On thursday he was rushed to Kolkata’s B.M. Birla Hospital after he complained of severe chest pain.  He underwent coronary angiography and a clot was removed from his chest. He was in I.C.U and was closely monitored.

Today evening hospital sources confirmed his death. “Mr. Dalmiya died of internal gastrointestinal bleeding and internal organ failure,” hospital sources said confirming the veteran cricket administrator ‘s death.

Cricket Association of Bengal sources added: “At 6 p.m. in the evening his condition deteriorated and shortly afterwards he suffered a massive cardiac arrest from which he could not recover.”

Dalmiya leaves behind a daughter and a son.

“BCCI Condoles the sudden demise of our president Shri Jagmohan Dalmiya”, the official handle of India’s apex cricket body tweeted.

Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly had earlier visited him at the hospital, while minister in-charge of sports (West Bengal) Arup Biswas also rushed to the hospital.

Due to the uncertainty over his health, secretary Anurag Thakur was taking the charge of the proceedings. There had been calls to remove him as the President  following his illness.
