Can Angel Reese bounce back stronger next season after her wrist injury? What do you think?

Is this it for Angel Reese’s 2024 WNBA run and the well-debated ROTY race? We are not the one to speculate, but the 22-year-old’s recent post on X itself confirms this. Taking to her official account, the Sky rookie opened up on what has been termed as her season-ending injury.

It was during the Chicago Sky’s 2nd win since the post-break season against LA Sparks that the Sky Rookie incurred a wrist injury. Following an impressive 24 points and 12 rebound performance, Reese took to X to announce that would be her last game of the season and so with the unexpected last shot.

“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol…” Reese wrote. All her records in rebounds and double-doubles, as she may have, 3-pointers haven’t been the LSU Tigress’ strong suit. But as the way of fate, the rookie finished her season with a 25-foot three-point jumper, assisted by Moriah Jefferson to bring the total to 88, 3:20 left on the clock.

There would be a timeout the very next second and Brianna Turner entered the court in the court in rookie’s place, thus ending her run. But Angel Reese is happy with all the contributions she has made so far and more so, having shown the league what she has in store in her final minute.

“All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so… I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next,” Reese further stated.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Angel Reese bounce back stronger next season after her wrist injury? What do you think?

Have an interesting take?

The rookie ends her season with 27 double-doubles and having recorded the most rebounds in a single season. The 22-year-old believes the timing God has chosen will help her with a physical and mental break. But she will still be with her team, cheering the loudest from the sidelines.

How strong was Angel Reese’s claim for Rookie of the Year prior to her injury?

Caitlin Clark became a stronger contender for the ROTY title in the second half of the 2024 WNBA season rum. Prior to that, the Sky rookie was already going strong on her path to the title. Not only did she surpass Sylvia Fowles’ record of most rebounds (404) in a single season, but she also created the record for most consecutive double-doubles (15) in WNBA history.

No wonder that she started attracting comparison from a rebounding legend like Dennis Rodman. It’s clear that the only player who was challenging Clark for the ROTY was Reese until her season-ending injury. However, both WNBA rookies have already denied the award to be their focal point.

The statement first came from Clark during a media interaction, stating the focus is on helping their teams win. So neither of them cares for the award and that Reese will tell you the same. In one the rare moment of agreement, the Sky rookie concurred. So it’s clear that more than losing her chance at ROTY, Angel Reese will be missing the chance to contribute to her team’s success.
