The regular NBA season is all set to begin in less than two weeks. Several analyses networks have made assertions and bold claims about the rankings of players in different positions across the league. CBS recently released a list of the top 15 point guards in the league. The position of Russell Westbrook on this list raised a few eyebrows.

The point guard is commonly the playmaker’s position on a team. Therefore, a point guard’s chief contributions are in the passing and scoring category. Arguably the two key factors that decide a game. Nevertheless, this list received very little positive response, as most fans criticized the list for placing players in the wrong positions.

It came as a shock to most fans who saw this list that Russell Westbrook was 13th on this list. Especially because it is below several point guards who are nowhere close to being as good as he is. Twitter erupted with fan responses to this list.

What does this mean for the Lakers? Are these rankings reasonable?

Most of the Lakers fans and basketball fans know that Westbrook arguably deserves to be higher on the list. He did average a triple-double last season. And now that he is on a championship-contending team, his team’s success should not be a factor in this debate.

It is understandable that Westbrook is criticized for stat padding. However, if stat-padding represents anything, it is the focus of an individual on his own goals. So if anybody represents the prime of individual brilliance, it is Russell Westbrook.

Ben Simmons had arguably the worst season of his career that has forced him to request a trade. So it makes little sense that Lakers Russell Westbrook, who has broken the triple-double record of the Legendary Oscar Robertson, is below any of these players.
